Meadows set to bloom

by @ 9:20 am. Filed under Bloom, Meadows

Hello,

Greetings on this cloudy damp day in England..hahahah…not a lot changes weather wise. I can’t grumble because we have had a belting summer after the bad spring start. Its always good when it rains overnight because it means I don’t need to carry gallons of water to the flower border. On the downside it means I have washing done that can’t go on the line to dry - Its a no winner.

But its a winner for the meadows and thats excellent news:

Fund to save Congo Basin rainforest launched

by @ 4:40 pm. Filed under Congo, Rain Forest

A multi-million pound fund to save one of the world’s biggest rainforests from destruction has been launched in London. Scientists say the preservation of the Congo Basin rainforest - the second largest in the world - is vital in fighting global climate change.

Deforestation contributes as much as 35 per cent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions and every week an area the size of 25,000 football pitches is cut down in the Congo Basin.

The UN estimates that 66 per cent of the rainforest will be gone by 2040 if the destruction isn’t halted.

Boost for China panda population

by @ 3:22 pm. Filed under Giant Panda, Twins

Hello,

Its getting better out there with this giant Panda news from China:

Four giant panda cubs have been born within 14 hours in China, boosting the population of the endangered species.

The cubs were born at the Chengdu Panda Breeding Research Centre in south-west Sichuan province, state media reported.

A pair of female twins was born to nine-year-old Qiyuan late on Saturday, Xinhua news agency reported.

About an hour later, eight-year-old panda Chenggong gave birth to another cub, while Zhuzhu, also eight, gave birth on Sunday.

The giant panda is one of the world’s most endangered species, because of the destruction of its forest habitat and lack of contact between isolated populations.

According to experts only about 1,600 pandas remain in the wild, mostly in Sichuan and neighbouring Shaanxi and Gansu provinces.

Another 180 pandas are being raised in captivity in China.

Say goodbye to the computer mouse

by @ 6:15 pm. Filed under Mouse, Technology

Hello,

It’s nearly 40 years old but one leading research company says the days of the computer mouse are numbered.

A Gartner analyst predicts the demise of the computer mouse in the next three to five years.

Taking over will be so called gestural computer mechanisms like touch screens and facial recognition devices. The mouse works fine in the desktop environment but for home entertainment or working on a notebook it’s over,” declared analyst Steve Prentice.

He told BBC News  that his prediction is driven by the efforts of consumer electronics firm which are making products with new interactive interfaces inspired by the world of gaming .

Women to give birth at 100

by @ 4:04 pm. Filed under Pregnancy at 100

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!!

Lmaooooooooooooo with copious amounts of KY Jelly and the Lord’s blessing by Imaculate Conception ..maybe.

Who thought that one up..for %$£*& sake? Whats it coming to –to even suggest the possibilty of bearing a child at 100 years old.  How many people even lives till 100 not many if any. They worry now about a man being past it after 35. His sperm its said can’t wriggle so fast upstream  (they never heard of Charlie Chaplin lol) They worry too about Downs Syndrome at roughly the same age so what do they think a woman of 100 will produce?

…and its shameful to even suggest it. ..the poor child. What about his/her school friends. What about boyfriends/girlfriends introductions to mum and dad?

Imagine taking a child, well could they take a baby to the clinic to be weighed, chat with younger mums, and mums to be…what was that dear (croak voice)

Sorry, I have a fit of the giggles just reading let alone witnessing.

Thieves ride off with 3,000 of Paris’s free bicycles

by @ 8:40 am. Filed under Bicycles, Paris

Oh my Giddy aunt, some people will steal anything,

I stopped being surprised when our local churches had to close unless mass is being offered because of thieves or vandals. A few years ago our oldest church was set on fire and destroyed so badly it had to be demolished, that really got me in the pit of my stomach. We were lucky to salvage the paintings and stain glass windows.

The self-service, Parisian bike-for-hire – the vélib‘ – was intended mostly for short rides when it was introduced 12 months ago.

Maddie in the pink

Still missing in Portual since May 2007

Mr McCann said they "profoundly regret" that someone saw in their actions the opportunity to take Madeleine, but insisted the couple had not been negligent.

Just what planet is Gerry MaCann on?

The couple left Maddie alone along with her sisters to dine with their friends on the night Maddie disapeared. They could and should have took the opportunity to put their children into the care of a professional nannie provided by the hotel - they did'nt - that is neglect.

In my opinion they should be charged with neglect, everyone else under such circumstances would be and indeed have been. They must be exempt because they are doctors!.
