You folks are amazing - the many of you who participated, fundraised and generally took apeing around during Orangutan Awareness Week to a whole new level so far, have donated just under £1,500 to BOS UK, enough to look after one orangutan for a whole year (we will let you know the final tally as soon as we do). And we know there are more donations on their way to the orangutans. We will continue to post any orangutan-related fundraising stories. So if you have some news to share, pass it on and so will we!!

A powerful earthquake has struck off the Indonesian island of Sumatra, reports say.
Indonesia’s meteorology agency said the quake had a magnitude of 6.7, while the US Geological Survey put its strength at 6.8.

Scientists have managed to recreate a pristine rainforest in Borneo on land which had previously been cleared by loggers.
The project has also provided locals with thousands of jobs and is fast becoming a blueprint for reforestation pushes around the world.

The mammal species of Borneo include 288 species of terrestrial and 91 species of marine mammals recorded within the territorial boundaries of Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia. The terrestrial mammals are dominated by the chiroptera (102 species of bats) and rodents (61 species of rats and mice).
