Bring ‘em Back Alive Frank Buck

hahahahahaha!

I laugh because I still remember the ‘fear factor’ about Borneo when ever it was mentioned years ago. Was it in a film? Could have been as I used to go to the pics with my sister and brother to give mum a nd dad a break. When Borneo is mentioned now its because of its diversity and beauty, and the flora and fauna where its not found anywhere else. Now experts trungle through the jungle to find reasons not to excavate and destroy. Its a place where Biologists and the like stand back and scratch their heads at the sheer size of the tiniest insect and the enormity of the Rafflesia flower.

Dream come true for resort owner

Hello,

THE dream to run a rainforest resort in the jungles of Miri almost did not come true for Henry Law Ing Hua after his application to acquire a plot of state land for the purpose was turned down twice.

His first application was submitted 1991 and rejected in 1995. He then sent in his second but and it was rejected again in 2000. Undaunted, he re-applied and in 2002, eventually got the nod.

THE LOINCLOTH OF BORNEO

MANY may think that—like the loincloth itself—a paper on the loincloth ought to be brief and cover only the essentials. Yet just as we wear clothes for more reasons than mere utility, and dress decorates as much as it hides, the subject of the loincloth furnishes an occasion for remarks on history, culture, and psychology.

Shot in the arm for Sumatran Elephants and Tigers

I read something similar last week about the residents who were going to kill the Elephants if their government did’nt do something. Appparently the loss of forest also means the Elephant *must* find a new sorce of food - crops.

The Indonesian government is to double the size of a national park that is one of the last havens for endangered Sumatran elephants and tigers.

Tesso Nilo National Park was created in 2004 with 38,000 hectares of forest. Today’s declaration will see that figure increase to 86,000 by the end of this year.

6 Things About Dayaks, the Fearsome Head-Hunters

Hello,

I am reading White Rajah. Its a Biography of Sir James Brooke. I found Softpedia by accident whilst loking for links to some words I found in the book. Hopefully Softpedia won’t mind me bringing in an image of a Dayak lady for the interest of my members - the interest will be the extrodinarily elongated ears from wearing earrings over the years.

Malaysia shuts down Web site critical of government

Hello,

…And the reason is clear why I don’t and never will discredit Malaysia. Apart from friends I have there in KL and Sing  I love Malaysia in all its entirity. But much as I *do love it I also don’t want (1)  throwing into one of their jails and (2) I don’t want closing down. People were warned months ago what would happen if there were any slurs on Malaysia.

Its also the reason I don’t allow comments.

Hello,

Global warming and limited access to land and other resources threaten many indigenous peoples, the UN food agency warned Friday.

Tales from the forest

I remember at infant school when we used to sit round our teacher in a circle while a little child read us the story for that day..or was it the teacher that read to us…blowed if my memory cells take me that far back..*grin…. I think it was teacher. Years later I learnt a lot about the importance of books for my child having worked in a children’s day nursery.

I guess your wondering where all this is leading well be patient ‘Good things come to those that wait’.
